Watch Nexus 2014 Keynote Video: Sellafield's David Malcolm on Fighting Fires vs. Strategic Management

If you missed ARCHIBUS Nexus 2014, that does not mean you can't hear keynote speaker David Malcolm of Sellafield Ltd., the UK Government Property Services Unit, describe his ongoing effort at change management that tries to replace "fighting fires" with a more strategic approach to facilities maintenance.

Sellafield has devised property performance indicators that, together with the concepts incorporated in ARCHIBUS, reveal an alternative way of managing property and FM services. FM, in the UK at least, is fundamentally a reactive business. FM is all about fire fighting, says Malcolm — and that's OK because practitioners feel it is exciting, makes them feel important. And reactive repairs also need very little paperwork; you don't need much of a business case to justify putting out a fire. But the skills that are really good in fire-fighting are not the same as those needed to add FM value to your organization.

CIO Review Names ARCHIBUS in Top 20 Tech Solution Providers for Government

A distinguished panel comprised of CEOs, CIOs, CMOs, VCs, analysts and CIO Review editorial board has selected ARCHIBUS as among the top Public Sector Tech Solution and Consulting Providers from over a thousand companies.

The announcement was made in the July issue of CIO Review's Public Sector Technology Special section.

The companies featured provided a look into how their solutions work in the real world, so that readers can gain a comprehensive understanding of what technologies are available in a highly competitive environment.

"One of ARCHIBUS' big success stories was to centralize facilities management data and work processes at Italy's largest oil and gas producer EniServizi (Eni) while also linking that information with other corporate ERP systems," the CIO Review article reported of the partially state-owned company.

ARCHIBUS is managing Eni's 400,000 square meters across 35 sites. They have been instrumental in taking this classification system global and producing Key Performance Indicators across the organization, said Massimo Varani, Senior Project Manager at Eni.

ARCHIBUS public sector clients also include the U.S. Internal Revenue Service; Idaho National Laboratory; State of Tennessee; Hamilton County, Ohio; Natural Resources Canada; City of Kansas City, and many more.
